In Loving Memory…

Rolla Ray Young

Rolla Ray Young, 84, of Sedalia, passed away Friday, January 4, 2019, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.

Ray, as he preferred to be called, was born in Sedalia, May 28, 1934, to Naomi and Blue Young. He graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in 1952, then attended CMSU.

After his high school years he worked for his father at Blue Young Htg, AC and Sheet Metal shop and after his father’s death he became the owner of the business and retired in 1991. He then worked at WAFB installing heating and AC. After that he drove for car dealerships for 15 or more years going on dealer trades, delivering and picking up vehicles for car auctions.

Ray served in the U.S. Army 1954-1956. From 1956-1972 he was married to Evelyn Bultemeir Young and to this union they became the parents of three children, Debra, Ronda and Timothy.

In 1975, he married Alberta Harrell and became the step-father to her four children. He had several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and greatly enjoyed their visits.

For several years he owned antique cars and belonged to a car club.

He collected antique clocks and different and unique scales.

Ray was a member of East Sedalia Baptist Church since 1947. He served on the Teller Committee at church for several years, and enjoyed making several things from wood for the decoration committee.

For a few years, he worked as a poll worker with his wife on election day.

For years he was known for the outside Christmas decorations he made and people asked several months ahead if he was going to display them that year.

Survivors include his wife, Alberta; three children, Debra Troutman, Ronda Thomas and Tim Young; four step-children, Keith Harrell, Cindy Bernard, Charlotte Harrell and Crystal Stewart.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Heckart Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Edwards, Aaron Thomas, David Young, Matthew Stewart, Corey Harris and Richard Stewart.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
