Yvonne Fowler, 95, of Blue Springs, formerly of Hughesville, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Parkway Senior Living in Blue Springs.
She was born September 16, 1928, in Sedalia, daughter of Noah Claud and Violet Albertha Leiter. She was raised on a farm along with her two brothers.
On November 18, 1951, at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, she was united in marriage to John Alexander “Jack” Fowler, Jr. He preceded her in death on March 31, 1989. This union was blessed with three children. They moved to Hughesville to what would become the family farm and she was proud to have lived in the same house until it burned several years ago after being struck by lightning.
Yvonne began teaching in a one-room schoolhouse, living with board members throughout the school year. Later she obtained her degree from Central Missouri State University and began teaching third grade at Mark Twain and later Heber Hunt. She was always given the more challenging students and was proud to help them get on track.
Yvonne was a member of Broadway Presbyterian Church, where she was a longtime Sunday school teacher and served in church leadership.
She was also a member of PEO and ADK, was a docent for the Daum Museum, and served on the Boonslick Library board for over thirty years. Yvonne was very much a leader and “in-charge” type of person.
She enjoyed playing cards, knitting, and traveling. She had traveled to numerous countries.
