Yvonne Fowler

September 16, 1928 — December 26, 2023

Yvonne Fowler, 95, of Blue Springs, formerly of Hughesville, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Parkway Senior Living in Blue Springs.

She was born September 16, 1928, in Sedalia, daughter of Noah Claud and Violet Albertha Leiter. She was raised on a farm along with her two brothers.

On November 18, 1951, at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, she was united in marriage to John Alexander “Jack” Fowler, Jr. He preceded her in death on March 31, 1989. This union was blessed with three children. They moved to Hughesville to what would become the family farm and she was proud to have lived in the same house until it burned several years ago after being struck by lightning.

Yvonne began teaching in a one-room schoolhouse, living with board members throughout the school year. Later she obtained her degree from Central Missouri State University and began teaching third grade at Mark Twain and later Heber Hunt. She was always given the more challenging students and was proud to help them get on track.

Yvonne was a member of Broadway Presbyterian Church, where she was a longtime Sunday school teacher and served in church leadership.

She was also a member of PEO and ADK, was a docent for the Daum Museum, and served on the Boonslick Library board for over thirty years. Yvonne was very much a leader and “in-charge” type of person.

She enjoyed playing cards, knitting, and traveling. She had traveled to numerous countries.

Surviving are a brother, Duane Leiter; a son, Daryl Fowler and wife Rebecca; daughter-in-law, Lori Fowler; son-in-law, Jack Dannels; grandchildren, Christi Bullard and husband Jared, Ashley Hunt and husband Patrick, Adam Fowler and wife Tara, Jake Fowler, Jordan Fowler and wife Tyler Fine, and Emily Fowler and Landen Smith; and great-grandchildren, Trey Greiner, Triniti Greiner, Tristyn Greiner, Jak Bullard, Braeden Hunt, Landon Hunt, Olivia Hunt, Liliana Fowler, Natalie Fowler, Ethan Fowler, Paxton Fowler and Lennox Fowler.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Gordon Leiter; a daughter, Beverly Ann Dannels; and a son, Jay Claude Fowler.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Heckart Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time.

Casket bearers will be Adam Fowler, Jake Fowler, Jordan Fowler, Jared Bullard, Patrick Hunt and Trey Greiner.

Burial will be in Hughesville High Point Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Broadway Presbyterian Church.
