Wiley E. Walter

Wiley Edward Walter, 85, of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at his home.

He was born January 9, 1933 in Sedalia, a son of Dorsey Edwin and Helen (Wiley) Walter.  On June 14, 1952, at East Sedalia Baptist Church in Sedalia, he married Helen Frances (Biery), who survives of the home.

Wiley served in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sgt. during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in France.  Wiley owned and operated Walter’s Barber Shop for over 60 years. He also worked as a real estate agent on the side.  Wiley served as a Sedalia City Councilman for eight years, as well as on the planning and zoning board.  He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, 40 & 8, Voiture 333, and American Legion Post 642.  He was a past board member of St. Paul’s Lutheran School.  Wiley enjoyed fishing, going to the casino, bowling, hunting, and was a lifelong Kansas City Chiefs fan.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Wiley will be remembered for his care and concern for others and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Helen, of the home; four children, Michael Walter (Gail) of Sedalia, Debra Joy (Mike) of Sedalia, Sheryl Gerke (Shawn) of Republic, MO, and Barry Walter (Sorita) of Sedalia; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ardis Curtiss of Independence.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one grandson and one brother, Joseph Walter.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 30, 2018, at Heckart Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2018, at the funeral home with entombment to follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.  Military honors will be conducted by the 40&8, United States Air Force and VFW Post 2591.

Pallbearers will be Leticia Stanley, Adam Walter, Shane Harvey, Alexis Sanders, Blake Gerke, Jason Joy and Remington Walter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Sedalia Animal Shelter or Our Savior Lutheran Church.
