Wesley Harrell Swift, Jr. 97, of Sedalia, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center.
He was born on April 28, 1928, in Sedalia, MO, a son of Wesley Harrell and Bertha Mae (Clough) Swift.
Wesley lived a life defined by service, dedication, and quiet accomplishment. He was a 1946 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School in Sedalia, where he began a lifelong pursuit of learning and technical excellence. Following high school, he continued his education at Purdue University, earning a degree in Engineering.
In 1946, Wesley enlisted in the United States Army, answering the call to serve his country. He completed basic training at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, and was later assigned as a Radio Operator with the Harbor Defense in Massachusetts. His primary responsibilities included maintaining radio and communications equipment, a role well suited to his technical skill and attention to detail.
While serving in the Army, Wesley met the love of his life, Olive C. Carlson, at a USO Dance. Their connection blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and the two were married on June 18, 1965, in Boston, Massachusetts. They made their home in Boston, where they shared many years together. Olive preceded him in death on July 14, 2014.
Following his honorable discharge from the military, Wesley began his professional career as an engineer with McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, Missouri. He later worked for Digital Equipment Company, where he specialized in computer module repair. Throughout his career, Wesley was known for his strong work ethic, technical expertise, and commitment to excellence.
Survivors include his cousins, Carla Helmig and Jill Oser both of Otterville, MO, and a host of other cousins.
Wesley was preceded in death by both of his parents and his wife Olive.
There are no services scheduled for Wesley and cremation arrangements are in the care of Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia, MO.
