Virginia Elizabeth Ann Taylor, 84, of La Monte, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2022.

She was born January 29, 1938, daughter of the late Perry and Dorothy (Riley) Shepherd. On October 2, 1953, in Centertown, she married Robert Arhart “Buck” Taylor, who preceded her in death on May 8, 2016.

Virginia worked for the Census Bureau for several years, which led to working at Waterloo Industries for 16 years. She was then a homemaker for most of her life. She was an election volunteer and also volunteered for the Missouri State Fair Foundation.

Virginia never met a stranger. She enjoyed going to the boat. She loved to travel and had been to Italy this year. She loved birds, oil painting and used to enjoy cooking. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren most of all and never missed one of their ball games. She was “Mimi” to everybody.

Survivors include four children, Ruth Ferguson (Bill), of La Monte, Robert Taylor, of Kansas City, Bill Taylor (Penny), of La Monte and Chester Taylor (Denise), of La Monte; six grandchildren, Tara Aeschbacher (Bruce), Brandon Taylor (Sarah), Lora Shireman (Kevin), Nathan Taylor (Sharla), Beth Huddleston (Alex), Shelly Taylor (Josh); ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Esther Brown, of Warrensburg; and a sister-in-law, Carol Shepherd, of Bonner Springs, KS.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Shepherd.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 8, 2022 at Heckart Funeral Home, with Mark Strickland officiating.

Casket bearers will be Bruce Aeschbacher, Brandon Taylor, Jack Hall, Kevin Shireman, Nathan Taylor, Josh Hathaway and Alex Huddleston.

Honorary bearers will be Andy Sevy, David Gerken, David Taylor, Tommy Taylor, John Fowler and Sam Mehan.

Burial will be in La Monte Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Heckart Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to La Monte Cemetery.
