Velma V. (Southard) Morley, 93, of Sedalia, MO, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center.
She was born February 11, 1932, in Cabool, MO, daughter of Ollie Franklin and Ada Myrtle (McCall) Southard.
On November 11, 1947, she was united in marriage to Howard Edward “Shorty” Morley, who preceded her in death on March 14, 2008.
Velma loved flowers and working in her yard. She enjoyed spending time with her cat, Lexie, as well as her family and friends. She collected cookbooks and loved poems. She enjoyed listening to country and gospel music. Velma was always helping others. She was a kind and giving person, and a strong and independent woman who was loved by all.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherry (Morley) Young (Larry); grandchildren, Stephanie Dedrick (Russell), Lawrence E. Young (Sarah), and Matthew Young (Michele); great-grandkids, Katlynne, Coralyn, Kellah, Creed, Kadesh, Kyiah, Craedyn, Sophia, and Brooklyn; a great-great-grandson, Colson; and her brother, Erwin Southard.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Edward Wayne “Buzzy” Morley; and two sisters, Thelma Curry and Edna Jobe.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2025, at Heckart Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
Casket bearers will be Russell Dedrick, Lawrence Young, Matthew Young, Bob Stuart, Terry Cockrell, and Wesley Windsor.
Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
