Veda Rae Nickell Anderson, 93, of Sedalia, formerly of Jameson, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2026.
She was born September 12, 1932, in Grundy County, Missouri, a daughter of the late Albert and Flossie Enola (Mitchell) McCulley. On December 24, 1950, she married Elles Gene "Bud" Nickell, who preceded her in death on February 17, 2000. On January 1, 2001, she married Robert L. Anderson, who preceded her in death on October 1, 2023.
Veda was a 1950 graduate of Gallatin High School. She was a devoted farm wife and worked alongside Bud, keeping the books for MFA Oil and Pioneer Seed distributorship. Bud and Veda moved to Sedalia in 1976 where she worked as an optician before serving as the food service bookkeeper for the Sedalia School District until her retirement.
Veda was an accomplished seamstress, making many of her own clothes and quickly developed a talent for quilting. She also enjoyed refinishing antiques, tole painting, and cooking. A dedicated and hardworking woman, Veda faithfully supported her husband, Bud, in both his work and daily life. Following her retirement, Bob and Veda enjoyed fishing in Canada and RV travel in Florida, Alaska and Texas.
She is survived by three sons, Dennis Nickell (Rowena) of Smithton, Doug Nickell (Rae) of Springfield, and Dan Nickell (Susan) of Sedalia; one brother, Ronald McCulley (Lillian) of Belleville, Illinois; three grandchildren, Ashley Bunch (Chris), Tyler Nickell (Kate), and Megan Thomas (Michael); five great-grandchildren, Dylan Thomas, Cole Wendt, Emily Thomas, Benjamin Nickell, and Madeline Nickell; two stepchildren, Danny Anderson (Elizabeth) of Lee's Summit and Melinda Beck (Bob) of Wentzville; four step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by three siblings, Lowell McCulley, Maxine Hill Knight, and Geneva Johnson.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the donor's charity of choice, in care of Heckart Funeral Home.
