Susan E. Daniels

Susan Elizabeth Daniels, 80, of Sedalia, MO, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at Primrose Retirement Community in Sedalia.

Susan was born October 8, 1946, in Sedalia, to Ralph and Marian (Murphy) McCarty. She graduated from Smith Cotton High School and then attended the University of Kansas, commencing a lifelong love of the Jayhawks!

On June 25, 1977, Susan married Peter Daniels at Broadway Presbyterian Church in Sedalia. They spent over four decades together, traveling and enjoying their hobbies and home, which they shared with two cats, Schatzie and then Gabby.

Susan lived and worked in Sedalia her entire life, taking on several meaningful roles within the community. She was especially proud of her work as a Sedalia City Councilwoman. In this position, which she held from 2003-2009, Susan advocated for her neighbors and all residents, becoming especially engaged with the first responder community. She partook in ride-alongs with the police and developed lasting relationships as a champion of those who serve Sedalia.

Susan found joy in life’s simple pleasures, such as tending to her yard. She was a talented home-chef and enjoyed cooking for others, especially around the holidays. She was also a skilled seamstress and needleworker. Susan loved spending time with friends and family and was an active member of First Christian Church of Sedalia.

Survivors include her siblings, Mike McCarty (Nancy) of Golden, CO, and Gayle Gerber of Lee’s Summit, MO, as well as a stepdaughter Margo Mathewson and her family, nieces Molly Henley (Stephen), Cara Pool (Ben), a nephew Christopher McCarty, a great-niece, and four great-nephews. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother-in-law.
