Sedalia

Steven Wayne Gemes, 68, of Sedalia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born October 5, 1957, in Warsaw, the son of Donald Wayne Gemes and Yvonne Easter (Reaves) Gemes.

On April 2, 1977, in Fristoe, he was united in marriage to Jill A. Reimer, and together they were blessed with one son.

Steve spent much of his career in grocery store management, working in Warsaw, Houston, and Sedalia. He and Jill also owned and operated convenience stores. He later worked at Warsaw High School and Interstate Studios as a custodian.

A man of faith, Steve was a member of Fristoe Pentecostal Lighthouse and was formerly active in the Lions and Kiwanis Clubs. He had a big heart for children, coaching several youth sports teams, including Upward Basketball. Steve enjoyed fishing, golfing, cooking, trips to the boat, and most of all, time spent with his grandson. He will be remembered for his joyful spirit and his love for family and friends.

Surviving are his wife, Jill, of the home; his son, Scott Gemes (Julie), of Warsaw; his grandson, Logan Gemes; his sister, Donna Nelson, of Rogersville; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a beloved grandson, Luc Donald Gemes.
