Stanley Gene Harms

January 9, 1954 — July 19, 2025

Sedalia

Stanley Gene Harms, 71, of Sedalia passed away Saturday, July 19, 2025, at his home.

He was born January 9, 1954, at Woodland memorial Hospital in Sedalia, MO, a son of Vernon and Phyllis (McCall) Harms. On August 22, 1981, at New Hope Babtist Church in Sedalia, he married Amelia Weller who survives of the home.

Stan proudly lived a life marked by service, craftsmanship, music, and family. A 1971 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School, Stan went on to honorably serve his country in the United States Navy. During his time in the Navy, he completed Boot Camp and Engineman A School at Great Lakes, Illinois, before being assigned to the USS Ranger CVA-61 Aircraft Carrier. Stan served two tours in the Tonkin Gulf during the Vietnam War.

Throughout his naval service, Stan traveled extensively—visiting Pearl Harbor, the Philippines, Subic Bay, Olongapo City, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Yokosuka, Japan. Of all his destinations, the Philippines held a special place in his heart for its beauty and affordability. His home ports were Alameda and San Diego, California. Stan held many vital roles aboard ship, including Machinery Officer of the Berthing Area, engineer on air compressors of all levels, producer of liquid oxygen and nitrogen for flight deck operations, fire pump maintenance, and shipboard firefighting.

Following his military service, Stan worked in various positions throughout Sedalia, including at Parkhurst Manufacturing, Gardner Denver, and the U.S. Post Office. He ultimately retired from Regal Beloit, where he specialized in building electric motors and operating multiple CNC machines.

Stan was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and a man of many talents and passions. From a young age, he had a deep love for music—he began playing the guitar at age 10 and went on to write songs and perform in several local bands. He was also a master woodworker and owner of Stauche Products, creating handcrafted clocks, custom wood crafts, and made-to-order pieces that showcased his skill and creativity.

Stan enjoyed fishing and camping with his parents in earlier years and had a lifelong passion for motorcycles and restoring classic cars and trucks, particularly Fords. He was a talented artist and even entered his drawings into the Missouri State Fair.

Above all, Stan cherished time spent with his family. His warm heart, creative spirit, and unwavering dedication to those he loved will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife Millie of the home; three sons, Joshua Harms (Lisa) of Kansas City, MO, Luke Harms (Veronica) of Blue Springs, MO, and Jerod Harms of Kansas City, MO; one sister, Diane Coyle of Sedalia; and two grandchildren, Jackson and L’Oréal.

Stan was preceded in death by both of his parents.
