Ruby J. Sudduth

Ruby Jane Sudduth, 95, of Sedalia, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2021, at Rest Haven Convalescent and Retirement Home.

She was born February 10, 1926, in Sedalia, daughter of Ellis William and Jaynie Tolitha (Robinson) Jinkins.

On September 20, 1944, in Bahner at St. John’s Catholic Church, she was married to  Eugene L. Sudduth Sr., who preceded her in death on April 2, 2000.

Ruby’s life was devoted to being a wife, mother and grandmother.  Ruby and her husband lived on their farm south of Smithton most of their married life but eventually sold the farm in 1978 when her husband, Gene, started working for Parkhurst in Sedalia.   They moved to a home just outside the Sedalia area.  On the farm they raised their own black angus beef, sold milk for a number of years, worked with a variety of crops over the years, produced their own hay for livestock, had a full garden and canned most all their food, and butchered beef, pork, and chicken for their personal consumption.  It wasn’t always an easy life but they raised their children on that farm and as a family shared many happy memories together. She often said the best years of her life were when her children were still at home.  Later in life she enjoyed caring for her grandchildren.

Ruby was a very creative and “artsy” person.  She loved to sing and once sang on the radio while her brother, Merle, played guitar.  She loved music and was always singing and had been known to break into yodeling when the mood hit her.  She loved to write.  She wrote many short stories and poems over the years.  She loved to read, work jigsaw puzzles, and share stories with family members. She was a joyous person to be around. Ruby will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Surviving are four children: Eugene L. Sudduth Jr. (Sharon) of Casa Grande, Arizona; Linda M. Hardy (Leon) of Post Falls, Idaho; Barbara Weatherspoon of Sedalia; and James Sudduth of Sedalia; nine grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert L. Sudduth; a son-in-law, Jon Weatherspoon; a brother, Merle Jinkins; a sister Mary Ruth Jinkins; and a sister, Stella Lemler.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 16, 2021, at Salem Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are in the care of Heckart Funeral Home.
