Robert Dale “Bob” Ferguson, 83, of La Monte, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2026, at his home.
He was born January 22, 1943, in Sedalia, the son of Clyde Marshall Ferguson and Hazel Irene (Edwards) Ferguson Nelson.
In July 1997, in Harrison, Arkansas, he was married to Kathleen Higgins.
Bob began working on the family farm at the age of twelve, alongside his father, grandfather, Uncle Dueward, and Aunt Pearl. Farming was his life’s work. He was a lifelong livestock farmer and was involved with Ferguson Hog Market, Inc., serving as co-owner from 1970 to 1979 and owner from 1979 to 1994. He took pride in his land and in growing the farm over the years. He believed in working hard, keeping your word, and being honest.
He enjoyed old country and bluegrass music, reading westerns, traveling—especially out west—and spending time doing word searches and playing solitaire.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Higgins, of the home; a daughter, Lori Harvey (Steven), of Clinton; a son, Jon Ferguson, of Nelson; two stepsons, Zach Vogler (Lauren) and Luke Vogler (Tammy); twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a brother, Bill Ferguson (Patty).
He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepmother, Carrie Ferguson; a stepfather, Arvel Nelson; a brother, Larry Ferguson; and a sister-in-law, Arlene Ferguson.
Plans for a celebration of Bob’s life are pending and will be announced on this site when available. Please check back for details.
Burial will be in Dresden Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Dresden Cemetery.
The family extends a special thank you to Kenny and Kevin Combs and the Curry family, as well as to all who visited, brought food, and offered support during the past three years of Bob’s diagnosis.
Arrangements are in the care of Heckart Funeral Home.
