Penny Sue Edwards, 72, of Sedalia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 31, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born May 25, 1954, in Milan, MO, a daughter of the late Glenn “Jake” and Peggy June (Jones) Moore.
Penny was a 1972 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School. She began her career at Center for Human Services, where she loved working with children. She later worked in the office at Adco, retiring after many years of dedicated service.
Penny was many things to many people, but to those who knew her best, she was unmistakably herself—spunky, creative, and truly one of a kind. Her hands were rarely still. Whether she was searching for the perfect fabric, transforming a piece of worn furniture into something beautiful, creating handmade treasures for those she loved, or preparing a special meal, she approached everything with imagination and enthusiasm.
Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she took great joy in making them feel loved. From sewing handmade dresses for her granddaughter and building doll furniture to constructing a PVC-pipe bike wash for the neighborhood kids, Penny's creativity knew no limits. She delighted in turning ordinary moments into lasting memories.
After retirement, Penny pursued her passion for cooking by attending culinary school at the Art Institute of Atlanta in Georgia. Her talent in the kitchen earned international recognition when she won a recipe contest that took her to Vienna, Austria, where she shared her creation with chefs from around the world. More important than any award was the love she expressed through her cooking. She had a gift for bringing people together and making them feel welcome and cared for.
Whether she was preparing a meal, crafting a thoughtful gift, or sharing one of her memorable sayings, Penny poured her heart into everything she did. She will be remembered for her generous spirit, her boundless creativity, and the joy she brought to the lives of those around her.
She is survived by her daughter, Natalie Kline (Matt); two grandchildren, Lily Meier and Logan Meier; and a step-grandson, Callum Kline, all of Sedalia.
A Celebration of Penny’s Life will be held 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Saturday, June 20, 2026 at The Tiki House, 19003 Highway Y, Sedalia, MO.
Arrangements are under the care of Heckart Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
