Paul Hugo Nieder finished his final journey on October 27, 2025. Paul was born November 13, 1940 in Lawrence, Kansas. He was raised on a farm near Lone Star, Kansas. His parents, Alta and Hugo Nieder preceded him in death as did his niece, Betsy Dunlap, his aunt and uncle, Mabel and Carl Nieder; and several other members of his family.
Paul graduated from Lawrence High School in 1958, Kansas University in 1962 with a B.S. degree, in 1966 with a master’s in history, followed by post graduate work towards a doctorate.
As years passed, he followed his passions: hunting, fishing, trapshooting and travel. Paul was a fifteen-year member of Ducks Unlimited serving as chairman for five years. He also was a fifty-year member of A.T.A. (trapshooting). Paul enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends.
Paul’s travels included National Parks, historical sites – (R.V. travel with Jay), international travel – India, China, France, Baltic countries, Hawaii and family camping.
Teaching was Paul’s calling: Alamogordo High School and State Fair Community College. At SFCC, he taught Western Civilization, American History and geography. Paul began his career at State Fair in 1968 and was instrumental in helping shape the direction of the college.
Surviving are his wife, Lorraine, two daughters, Brooke Nieder and Roxanne Nieder; one brother, Dean (Martha); one sister, Catherine (Larry) Dunlap; cousins Henry Nieder and Max Nieder; two nieces, Chris Johnson (R.J.) and Sarah Nieder; one nephew, David Dunlap (Julie), their families; and his friends.
Paul will be remembered as he was loved.

A Celebration of Paul’s Life will be held 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Saturday, November 8, 2025 at the Heckart Family Center, 915 South Ohio, Sedalia, MO.
Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
