Sedalia

Patrick Thomas “Pat” Moriarty, 92, of Sedalia, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.

He was born May 4, 1933, in Sedalia, a son of the late Thomas and Agnes (Velten) Moriarty. On January 12, 1957, in Sedalia, he married Shirley Burnett, who survives of the home.

Pat was raised in Sedalia and was a 1951 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish.

As a young man, Pat helped his father deliver gas to customers. He later worked as a truck driver for Shein Truckline. Always one to stay busy, he began doing woodworking projects in his garage. As demand for his work grew, he purchased Fred Boch Cabinet Shop in 1965, establishing what became known as Pat’s Cabinets. He completed residential and commercial projects in Sedalia and throughout Missouri. His work extended beyond cabinetry, including protective boxes for Adco, guitar bodies for Backwoods Guitars, and, in later years, jewelry boxes. He was widely known for the quality of his craftsmanship.

Music was an important part of Pat’s life. He played the fiddle in a band, at nursing homes, and at informal gatherings. He also enjoyed gardening and sold tomatoes to local restaurants during the summer. He took pride in growing roses and kept fresh flowers in the house for Shirley.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three children, Starla Weatherly (Tony) and Bart Moriarty (Connie), both of Sedalia, and Sherri Hopler (Doug), of Nixa; two siblings, David Moriarty, of Sedalia, and Rose Stewart (Jim), of Colorado; three grandchildren, Ryan Weatherly (Kelli), of Blue Springs, Brenan Moriarty (Kerri), of Foley, Alabama, and Brooke Kreisler (Logan), of Cole Camp; and three great-grandchildren, Chloe Weatherly, Leah Kreisler, and Braxton Kreisler.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings, Mary Jo Ament and Ralph Moriarty.
