Merle J. Amberg, 80, of Sedalia, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2025, at E.W. Thompson Health and Rehab Center.
Born on June 8, 1945, in Chanute, Kansas, he was the son of the late Merle and Edith (McBride) Amberg.
Merle was a talented woodworker and made his career as a cabinet maker for the aircraft industry. His craftsmanship and creativity extended beyond his profession — he built an electric guitar by hand, proudly embedding the Amberg name on it. This cherished instrument, which he played himself, was later passed on to his grandson and continues to be played today.
A lover of classic rock, Merle’s favorite bands included The Eagles, the Charlie Daniels Band, Steve Miller, and Bob Seger. He also enjoyed playing the guitar, watching football, NASCAR, wrestling, and classic Westerns.
He is survived by his son, Curtis Amberg (Connie), of Sedalia; a brother, Ronald Amberg, of California; four grandchildren, Rachel Yearwood of Texas, Leland Amberg of Sedalia, Derrick Amberg (Kaitlyn) of Washington, and Tyeler Amberg of Sedalia; and two great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Yearwood and Mason Amberg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Amberg, and a sister, Beulah Amberg.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
