Melva R. Fowler Mcdaniel

Melva R. Fowler McDaniel, 98, of Otterville, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2019, at Tipton Oak Manor.

She was born June 22, 1920, in Fortuna, MO a daughter of E.M. and Alverta (Monks) Foley.

On September 14, 1939, she married Elmer Fowler, who preceded her in death on January 5, 1975.

On November 15, 1997, in Fortuna, MO, she married J.L. McDaniel, who survives of the home.

When she was young, Melva helped at the family business, Fowler’s Feed Store. For most of her life she was a homemaker and enjoyed living on her farm north of Otterville, where she had lived since 1954.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Otterville, where she used to teach Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Otterville American Legion Post 84 Ladies Auxiliary. Melva was an auxiliary volunteer at Bothwell Regional Health Center for 27 years.  She served on the board of directors for Katy Manor Nursing Home and the Bank of Otterville. She helped establish the Otterville Senior Center and was active with the Otterville Street Fair many years ago. She had served as a Cooper County Republican Committeewoman.

She enjoyed crochet, needlework, traveling, reading, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, J.L. McDaniel, of the home; her son, E.H. Fowler (June) of Florence, MO; four grandchildren: Jay Fowler (Ann), Jill Nolting (Jeff), Jeana Freeman (Doug), and Jennifer McAdams Allen (Scott); thirteen great-grandchildren: Charity Cole (Brad), Jayson Fowler, Bear Fowler, Jesse Fowler, Ryan Fowler, Jordyn McQuaide (Lucas), Jacob Nolting (Karen), Eli Freeman, Luke Freeman, Kloi McAdams, Kyli McAdams, Stevey McAdams and Kale McAdams; three step-grandchildren: Ben McDaniel, Sara Brandenburg (Matt), and Anna McDaniel; eight great-great-grandchildren: Ana, Ali, Landon, Jackson, Avery, Ashton, Khobie and Jose Luis; and two step-great-grandchildren: Ruby and Leo Brandenburg.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two step-sons, Richard C. and Michael McDaniel; and a grandson-in-law, Steve McAdams.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019, at First Baptist Church of Otterville, with Rev. Russ Slocum and Jeff Page officiating.

Casket bearers will be grandsons.

Honorary bearers will be her caregivers: Kay Larson, Michelle Stone, Sydney Nolan and Pat Asbury.

Burial will be held in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Otterville.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2019, at the church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Otterville or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
