Maudell Bowers

Myrna Maudell Luce Bowers, age 92, of Sedalia, passed away Friday, July 20, 2018, at Fair View Nursing Home, after a short illness.

She was born April 2, 1926, in Nevada, MO, daughter of Frank David Cook and Blanche (Davis) Cook. On February 1, 1946, she was married to Norman Eugene Luce, who preceded her in death on December 17, 1991. On November 25, 1995, she was married to Pearly Bowers, who preceded her in death on December 27, 2003.

Mrs. Bowers loved her faith and was the secretary at East Sedalia Baptist Church for over 17 years, where she also was a member, pianist, and Sunday school teacher. She received a distinguished service award from the Pettis County Fire Department in 1995 for serving as secretary for the board, as well as a commendation from the Harmony Baptist Association for clerking from 1988 to 1998. Maudell also was an avid cross-stitcher and quilter who shared her talents with family and friends.

Surviving are her three children, Judith D. Carson and her husband, Richard D. (Dale), of Lehigh Acres, FL, Philip E. Luce and his wife, Jean Wenn Luce, of Chattanooga, TN, and Paul A. Luce and his wife, Jan Charles-Luce, of Palm Springs, CA; four grandchildren, Myrna M. Dodd, Benjamin E. Carson, Christopher E. Luce, and Kevin A. Luce; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Jerry J. Cook and his wife, Sue Cook, of Lee’s Summit, MO, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Gera Valee Smith; and a brother, Clifford Norris Cook.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 2, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Eddie Brown officiating.

Burial will be in Smithton Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
