Lillian M. Marquess Ulmer

Lillian Mae Marquess Ulmer, 93, of Sedalia, MO passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center.

She was born July 29, 1932, in Florence, MO, the daughter of William Obediah Marquess and Minnie Leona (Kellner) Marquess.

Lillian worked at Dorn Clooney, Lamy’s, and at the Bothwell Hotel as an elevator operator, where she once received a kiss from Little Jimmy Dickens. She went on to attend State Fair Community College to earn her CNA certification and worked at Rest Haven and Fairview nursing homes.

She attended East Sedalia Baptist Church for many years. Her life was centered on her faith and her family. She enjoyed embroidery, garage sales, visits to Liberty Park, and watching birds. She also enjoyed visiting with others.

She is survived by five children, Linda Griffin of Windsor, MO, Richard Ulmer (Kim) of Shawnee, KS, Toni Myers (Mike) of Leeton, MO, Joe Gentile of Miami Beach, FL, and David Ulmer (Debra) of Hillsboro, MO; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Stephen Ulmer and Thomas Ulmer; one grandson; and several brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Heckart Funeral Home, with funeral services to follow at 1:30 p.m.

Burial will be in Highland Sacred Gardens.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
