Lanny R. Palmer

Lanny Ray Palmer, 73, of Sedalia, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at 3:30 a.m. surrounded by his family.

He was joyfully welcomed into this world by his parents Charles Junior “Charlie” Palmer and Letha Virginia “Peach” (Witt) Palmer on October 15, 1947. On May 2, 1969 he married the love of his life Kathy Wahlers and their love endures to this day.

Lanny is survived by his wife, his daughter Melissa (Rick) Embry, his son Charles Jeremy (Katie Marie Dougan) Palmer, his grandsons Alex Pompe, Gaige Palmer, Dane Palmer, and Damion Close, his sister Cheryl (Palmer) Campbell, his brother David Palmer, his sister-in-law Lynda (Eckles) Palmer, Tom (Peg) Gardner, cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends too numerous to count.

He was preceded in death by his mother, his father, and his brother Charles Jerry Palmer.

Lanny served honorably in the United States Army before returning home to begin work with his father and brothers at their family-owned business, Palmer Tool & Supply. He greeted everyone he met as if they were already friends. He had a kind word, a funny story, or words of wisdom for everyone. He embraced life to the fullest and taught his children and grandsons to do the same. His smile brightened every corner of every part of the world he touched. He found something good in every experience or situation he encountered. Anyone who met him would say they were lucky to have met him.

Lanny enjoyed his work, talking with people every day, he loved working in his yard, creating pockets of beauty with his flowers, and never turned down an opportunity to go fishing. He was mostly a “catch and release” guy, saying “see you next time” as he released a big fish. But by far his greatest pride and joy centered around his wife, his children, and his cherished grandsons. His joy, his kindness, his wisdom will live on in them. He wanted his grandsons to embrace life, find joy in all things, and, when in doubt, ask themselves “What would Pa do?”. The answer will be there.

Please join his family in celebrating his life at Heckart Funeral Home on Sunday May 2, 2021. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with a service to follow at 2:00 p.m.

In honor of his life, please consider a donation to the American Lung Association in lieu of flowers in care of Heckart Funeral Home.
