Sedalia

Karen Jean Stauffer, age 72, of Windsor, Missouri, passed away at Hospice House, in North Kansas City, Missouri of heart failure on February 7, 2026.

She was born in a doctor’s office above the dime store in Boonville, Missouri to Neoma Kathryn (Taylor) and Truman William Stauffer. When she was small, the family moved to Lupus, Missouri and lived there a number of years. Karen attended Jamestown Consolidated School, graduating high school there. After school, Karen worked at a jacket factory in California, Missouri, as a seamstress for some years before she was forced to stop working due to a decline in her health. Karen then moved to Jamestown, Missouri to care for her father until his death, and later settled in Sedalia, Missouri for many years. In the few years before her passing, Karen was living in Windsor, Missouri at the Windsor Healthcare and Rehab center.

Karen enjoyed quilting, embroidery, painting and doing jigsaw puzzles. She taught herself to sew and sewed many of her own clothes, even in high school. She loved the color purple, and she loved her cats. Her favorites were Fanci Sue, Katy Lu, and Grace E. Karen was good with words, and had a great sense of humor. She especially enjoyed making people laugh in what should be serious situations. She frequently said the things no one else wanted to say and she did it with an honesty that couldn’t be denied.

Karen was a longtime member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Sedalia, Missouri.

Karen was preceded in death by her mother, her father, sister, Betty, brother, Hugh, and is survived by a sister, Lana Heather, of Kearney, Missouri.
