Kamla Gay Dix, 68, of Sedalia, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2026, at her home.
She was born May 31, 1957, in Plainville, Kansas, the daughter of C. Mervin and Virginia Lee (Long) Dix.
Kamla was a 1975 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School. She attended State Fair Community College, earning an associate’s degree in 1977. She was employed by JCPenney, where she worked in receiving and retired after 35 years of service. From 2019 to 2020, Kamla participated in the AmeriCorps Senior Foster Grandparent Program. She found great joy in providing one-on-one reading support to students at Skyline Elementary School in Sedalia.
Kamla was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She enjoyed counted cross-stitch, dogs, and watching murder mystery movies.
Survivors include several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and dear friends, Jan Trautmann and Cheryl and Cliff McBride, all of Sedalia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Diana Kay Dix; and her beloved Jack Russell Terrier, Bella Dix.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at Crown Hill Cemetery with Rev. Candace Fowler officiating.
