John I. Brooks, 87, of Sedalia, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2022 at E.W. Thompson Health and Rehab Center.
He was born June 29, 1935, in Sedalia, son of the late John and Eva (Hudson) Brooks. On June 1, 1963, in Sedalia, he married Mary Darlene Spears who survives.
John was raised in Sedalia and a graduate of Smith-Cotton High School. He served his country honorably in the US Navy 1955-1958. He worked at S&M Sports which later became Bill’s Sporting Goods and Pummill’s Sporting Goods, from where he retired.
His hobbies included model trains and classic cars. He will be remembered as giving, kind, supportive and the rock of his family.
In addition to his wife, Darlene, he is survived by three sons, Greg Thomas Brooks, Keith Allen Brooks (Tamara) and Adam Martin Brooks (Ghiee Mercado), all of Sedalia; six grandchildren, Adam Michael Brooks, Patricia, James Samuel, Christopher and Matthew; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Heckart Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors by VFW Post 2591 and US Navy.
Visitation will be 5:00 pm-7:00 pm Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Heckart Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Wounded Warrior Project in care of the funeral home.
