John Russell Chappell

John Russell Chappell, 71, of Sedalia, passed away Friday, April 17, 2026, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia.

He was born on September 29, 1954, in Appleton City, Missouri, a son of Richard and Jeaneane (McConnell) Chappell.

On May 20, 1978, in Germantown, Missouri, John was united in marriage to Sandra Bartels, who survives of the home. Their marriage was blessed with many years of love, partnership, and shared memories.

John devoted his professional life to education, serving as an instructor at State Fair Community College in Sedalia for 38 years. He taught electronics and networking, impacting the lives of countless students with his knowledge, patience, and dedication. He was Cisco certified and took great pride in staying current in his field. John was also a member of the Missouri Vocational Association and Cisco, reflecting his commitment to vocational education and professional excellence.

A man of strong faith, John attended St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Chapel.

Outside of his career, John found great joy in simple pleasures. He was known for his sense of humor and loved telling jokes, often bringing smiles to those around him. He had a talent for carving and woodworking and was a skilled handyman who could fix or build just about anything. John also had a deep appreciation for the land, spending time farming on the side and working with his Hereford cattle.

Most of all, John cherished time spent with his family and friends, creating lasting memories through his kindness, laughter, and steady presence. He will be remembered for his dedication to his students, his love of family, and the many lives he touched through both his work and his generosity.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Chappell of the home; two sisters, Janea Chappell of Deepwater, MO, Julee Snyder of Appleton City, MO, brothers and sisters-in-law, Roger and Virgie Cook in Clinton, MO, and Monica Busby of St. Louis, MO, and six nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Jeaneane Chappell.
