Janis Marie Laster

Janis Marie Laster, 71, of LaMonte, passed away Monday, July 8, 2024 at University Hospital in Columbia.

She was born July 1, 1953, in Marshall, a daughter of the late Luther and Betty (Sullivan) Toliver. She was married to Ivan Dale Laster, Sr., who preceded her in death on March 9, 2013.

In her early years, Janis worked as a nurse. She later worked at Osco, Westlake and OATs.

She enjoyed watching television and especially enjoyed the Hallmark Channel, NCIS, game shows and spaghetti westerns. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed playing computer games. Janis was the main caregiver to her son, Ivan, Jr., when he was sick.

Janis will be remembered as loving, caring, joyful, grateful, sentimental, talkative and a great storyteller. She loved her grandchildren and always looked forward to their visits.

Survivors include eight grandchildren Brian Laster, Micheal Laster, Jesse Laster, Nicholas Laster, Katelyn Laster, Richard “R.J.” Laster, all of Sedalia, Onica Kelly, of Sparta, and Travis “T.J.” Laster, Jr., of Springfield; and one sister, Kathleen Krumsiek, of Slater.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her two sons, Ivan Laster, Jr. and Travis Laster, Sr.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Fairview Cemetery in Marshall.
