James Douglas Stephens, Sr., 86, of Quincy, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2025.
He was born on August 7, 1938, in Sedalia, Missouri, the son of the late James O. and Eva (Moffatt) Stephens. He was united in marriage to Marlyn Keller, who preceded him in death.
James worked as a local truck driver and was a man of faith, affiliated with The Salvation Army. He was known for his strong convictions and proudly supported President Trump.
An avid fisherman, James found joy in the simple things in life—spending time with his grandson and great-grandson, sharing laughs with his beloved nieces, and enjoying the company of his donkey, Jumpin’ Jack, even if the conversations were a bit one-sided.
He is survived by four sons: James D. Stephens, Jr. (Trina) of Kansas City; Howard Lewis of Blue Springs; Johnny Stephens; and Joseph Stephens, of Quincy. He also leaves behind grandchildren and great-grandchildren, James, Blake, Adam, Amanda, Jacob, Tassie, Amanda W., Jayme, McKenzie, Spence, Johnathan, Jayce, Nora, Ava, Bennett, Gracelynn, and Piper; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings: Junior, Lloyd, LaVonne, Barbara, and Ada.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Heckart Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery.
