James Daniel “Dan” Brant, 71, of Sedalia, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born November 10, 1954, in Sedalia, the son of Jerry Brant and Shirley (Livingston) Brant.
On October 6, 1979, he married Monica Anne (Walje) Brant, who survives of the home. Dan was deeply devoted to his wife of 46 years.
Dan was a 1972 graduate of Sacred Heart High School and later graduated from Linn Technical College with a degree in Machine Tool Technology. He worked as a tool and die maker and eventually became the owner of his own business.
A natural and creative problem solver, Dan had the ability to make or fix nearly anything. He took great pride in his craftsmanship and was always willing to lend a hand to others, generously helping with their projects.
Known for his unique dry sense of humor, Dan kept those around him on their toes and brought laughter into everyday life. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, spending quality time with his family, and especially cherished playing with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Monica Brant of the home; a daughter, Danielle Brant of Kansas City; and a son, Josh Brant (Kyra) of Sedalia; along with his beloved grandchildren, and sister, Kathy (Mike) Petersen of Cassville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Tommy Brant and Steve Brant.
Visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday, May 21st at Heckart Funeral Home, 903 S. Ohio Ave., Sedalia, MO.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Friday, May 22nd at St. Vincent de Paul Sacred Heart Chapel, 421 W. 3rd St., Sedalia, MO.
Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart School, Sedalia, MO in care of Heckart Funeral Home.
