Ima Jean Rowden

Ima Jean (Shryock) Rowden was born in Peoria Illinois, daughter of Howard and Dorsey Ethel Sloan Shryock on August 14, 1934 and departed this life on November 10, 2022.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Virginia Rowden (Jewell), Charles Shryock (Kimie), Duane Shryock (Alice) and Robert Shryock. She married Lee Wesley Rowden on January 13, 1951. Lee also preceded her in death in 2010. Their son, Rev. Randal Glenn Rowden died in 2013.

She is survived by son, Richard Lee Rowden and his wife Julie of Columbia Missouri, daughter-in-law, Shirley Rowden, Sedalia Missouri, four grandchildren Micah Rowden (Julie), Sedalia, Missouri, Christina Rowden, Springfield Missouri, Rebekah Jouret (Michael), Hallsville, Missouri and Caleb Rowden (Aubrey), Columbia Missouri and Keyanna Jones (Albert) of O’Fallon, Missouri. Eight great-grandchildren, Zachariah, Lydia, Willem, Josiah, Adele, Chloë, Phoebe, Theo, host of nieces, nephews and friends.

She loved her family and they always came first in everything. She loved having dinners and get togethers. She enjoyed babysitting for her great grandchildren for several years while their parents worked.

Ima Jean worked at Woolworths five and dime store in Crestwood Missouri and transferred to the Sedalia, MO store in 1962 when they became pastors of the Pentecostal Church of God on 6th and Emmet. Later she started working at Archias Floral where she worked for 10 years. She became passionate about gardening and working in the yard. In 1977 she started working at the Missouri Department of Revenue issuing driver’s licenses and worked there for more than 30 years. People said she was the only person there that would smile and be nice to you.

They also pastored the Pentecostal Church of God at 24th and Ohio in Sedalia and churches in Warrensburg and Cole Camp.

Ima Jean loved to travel and was blessed to visit every state in the US with her husband, Lee, including Alaska and Hawaii. In 2008 she and Lee moved to Columbia, Missouri to be closer to their son, Rick and his family. Columbia was closer to the hospital and doctors as Lee’s health was failing.

Ima Jean was a member of Praise Assembly of God Church in Columbia, Missouri.

Funeral services for Ima Jean will take place at Encounter Church, 1201 N. William Parkhurst Drive, Sedalia MO on Saturday, November 19. Visitation at 10 AM and the service begins at 11 AM. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
