Haroldine “Harry” or “H.J.” Joseph Unrein, 84, passed away March 18, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Harry was born on May 24, 1941, in Hays, Kansas, a son of the late Joe C. and Rosie (Jacobs) Unrein. He graduated from Thomas Moore Prep-Marion High School in Hays, KS, and went to work as a mechanic and custom harvester.
On September 5, 1966, in Victoria, KS at Saint Fidelis Basilica church (Cathedral of the Plains), he married Margaret (Marge) Dinkel, who survives of the home. Soon after marriage, they moved to Jennings, KS, where they made their home of 56 years. During those years, Harry was living the dream of tending his cattle and cultivating the land, with crops of wheat, milo, and sunflowers.
Harry was an active member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Almelo, KS, where he was a Eucharistic Minister and Knights of Columbus member. He could always be found helping at the annual church bazaar.
Harry had a zest for life! On the weekends, he could be found drag racing on the drag strip at Great Bend, KS Raceway and various other tracks. Harry spent his free time in the shop tinkering on cars, trucks, and implements as well as welding art creations & farm projects. He loved a good polka dance and playing a competitive game of pitch. He treasured time with his family and friends. Most importantly, he loved hanging out and enjoying activities with his 3 daughters and 7 grandsons, all being his pride and joy.
In 2022, Harry and Marge moved to Sedalia, MO to be closer to their daughters and grandsons. This move brought extra quality time with family, where they often enjoyed family dinners, time on the patio, card games, and car races.
Harry will be remembered as a hard worker, devoted dad & husband, kind neighbor, and someone who always wore a huge smile.
In addition to his wife, Marge, survivors include his 3 children, Susie Howe (David), of Sedalia, Sherri Lowry, of Sedalia, and Missy Schibi (Steve) of Sedalia; 6 grandsons, Adam Howe, Christopher Lowry, Brady Lowry, Chase Lowry, Dylan Schibi, and Tanner Schibi.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Augie and Lester, sister Georgina, and grandson Jacob.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 am Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Sacred Heart Chapel of St. Vincent de Paul Parish, 421 W 3rd St, Sedalia, MO with prayers of the rosary beginning at 10:30 am. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 am with Rev. Joseph S. Corel presiding.
