Gary Neal Jones, 87, of Sedalia, passed away Friday, July 10, 2026, at his home.
Gary was born on October 14, 1928, in Pulaski County, Missouri, a son of Cornelius Mackney and Edna Marie (Hensley) Jones.
On June 13, 1959, in Irving, Texas, he was united in marriage to Janet Jean Westphalan. Together they shared a loving marriage that spanned more than six decades. Janet survives at their home.
Gary honorably served his country in the United States Navy, a chapter of his life that reflected his lifelong commitment to duty and service. Following his military service, he dedicated many years to a career as an Accounting Technician on the Civil Service side for the United States Army, where he was respected for his dedication, accuracy, and strong work ethic.
A faithful man of God, Gary was a member of Otterville Presbyterian Church. His faith remained an important foundation throughout his life.
Growing up on the family farm, Gary learned the value of hard work at an early age. He spent countless hours helping his parents with the daily responsibilities of farm life and worked alongside his father cutting wood, experiences that helped shape the dependable and humble man he became.
Gary found great joy in giving back to others. He cherished the years he spent coaching Little League baseball, taking pride not only in teaching the game but also in encouraging young athletes and helping them develop confidence, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Gary enjoyed fishing any chance he could. He was also an accomplished bowler whose talent earned him numerous awards over the years. Some of Gary's favorite memories were made at the bowling alley, where he and Janet spent countless evenings together enjoying friendly competition and the fellowship of lifelong friends.
Survivors include his wife Janet of 67 years; two sons, Andrew Jones of Texarkana, TX, Glenn Jones (Ann) of Texarkana, TX; two daughters, Sue Thornsberry (Ryan) of Cape Girardeau, Lori Jones of Sedalia; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Zachary, Amber, David Louis, Jr., Aaron, Sarah, Rachel, Chelsea, and Skye; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Granville "Butch" Jones of Columbia, MO, Danny Luke Jones of Crocker, MO; two sisters, Judith Marie McMurtrey of Crocker, MO, and Christina Louise Lentz of Richland, MO.
In addition to both of his parents he was preceded in death by one son, David Louis Jones; one grandson, Randy Jones; one granddaughter, Andrea Elizabeth Jones; and one brother, Melvin Jones.
