Gary E. Barrett, 73, of Sedalia, Missouri, passed away on July 17, 2025. Born on March 10, 1952, in Kansas City, Missouri.
Gary worked as an aeromechanic in Kansas City before relocating to Syracuse Missouri, where he served as a prison guard for the State of Missouri until his retirement. Gary and Diana then moved to Lake of the Ozarks where he gave back as a volunteer firefighter.
A man of many talents, Gary had a gift for restoring antique cars and a lifelong love for anything with wheels. He enjoyed fishing, collecting antiques, and was rarely seen without one of his beloved Boston Terriers by his side.
Gary will be remembered for his infectious laugh and his willingness to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Diana Barrett; his mother, Jean Hensley; his father, Dewey Barrett; and his sister, Pamela McClaskey.
He is survived by his stepdaughter, Jackie Dankert-Carnes (Patrick) of lowa; his nieces, Rachel Johnson (Brian) of Sedalia, and Tina Vaughn (Jon) of Pace, Florida; 2 aunts, Karen Waller and Judy Thrall (Bruce) as well as many great-nieces and nephews who will carry his memory forward.
Graveside services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gary's honor may be made to the Sedalia Animal Shelter.
