Ellen M. Cope
Ellen Marie Cope, 74, of Sedalia, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at her home.
She was born June 25, 1949, in St. Louis, daughter of Ned and Ellen (Murphy) Lindstrom.
On October 28, 1972, in Sedalia, she married Reggie Cope.
Ellen was a 1967 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School. She attended two years of Christian college, and then earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Central Missouri State University. She primarily taught reading at Pettis County R-V in Houstonia for many years.
Ellen was involved in community theatre. She sang in the Sedalia Chorale and in the Calvary Episcopal Church choir, where she was a member. She enjoyed reading, musical theatre, old movies, swimming, and was an animal lover.
Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Reggie; two sons, Dugan Cope (Brianna), of New Franklin, and Andrew Cope (Jennifer), of Columbia; five grandchildren, Wren, Redding, Alexander, Franklin and Rucker; and a sister, Margaret “Maggie” McDermott, of Columbia.
Services will be private. Friends may sign the guest book from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday, August 24, and Friday, August 25, at Heckart Funeral Home.
