Edwin Albert Walters, Jr.

Edwin Albert Walters, Jr., 89, of Sedalia, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2022 at E.W. Thompson Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born July 20, 1932, in Sharon, ND, son of the late Edwin Albert Walters, Sr. and Alice (Foss) Walters. On September 2, 1956, at East Sedalia Baptist Church, he married Margaret Lodelle Cook, who preceded him in death on June 20, 2016.

He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force 1951-1955 during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Ed was hired as a groundman in 1956 for Central Missouri Electric Cooperative and promoted to lineman, Service Department Foreman, Power Use Advisor, Assistant Manager and was named Manager in 1979, retiring 1994. His personal achievement was developing and building a hot line demonstration kit. He used the kit to demonstrate safety to school children and civic groups.

He was active in the community serving on many boards and committees including Chairman of the 4-H Electric Theatre at the Missouri State Fair Grounds, Sedalia Economic Development Board, WAFB Community Council Ambassador, WAFB Military Affairs Committee, Air Force Association, University of Missouri Extension, Sedalia Area Chamber of Commerce, Central Power Electric Cooperative Board of Directors, and Pettis County Alzheimer’s Association Board of Directors. He was a member of East Sedalia Baptist Church.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, antique cars, spending time with grandchildren. He was a friend to all; enemy to none.

Survivors include four children, Rhonda Warnke (Dietrick), of Stover, Renay Montgomery (David), Rodney Walters (Tina), and Rance Walters (Tiffany), all of Sedalia; ten grandchildren, Justin Warnke, Lucas Warnke (Renee), Brenan Moriarty (Kerri), Brooke Kreisler (Logan), Trenton Walters, Aaron Walters (Madison), Kaitlyn Evans (Kyle), Rush Walters (Mia), Rachel Corbett (Clayton) and Rexford Walters (Taylor); four great-grandchildren, Cole Warnke, Claire Warnke, Leah Kreisler and Hazel Evans; a sister, Amy Bugbee, of ND; and a son-in-law, whom he considered a son, Bart Moriarty.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Donald, Luella and Betty.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Heckart Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters.

Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery with full military honors.

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to East Sedalia Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
