John Edward “Ed” Sartain, 70, of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Golden Age Living Center.

He was born August 18, 1955, in Otterville, one of two sons born to Charles and Bernice (Hoehns) Sartain.

Ed farmed early in life and later worked as an over-the-road truck driver. For 40 years, he owned and operated Sartain Industries. No matter where life took him, his heart was always on the farm. He loved tinkering, raising pigs in his younger years, and more recently caring for cattle.

Ed had a strong interest in war history. He enjoyed reading war books, watching war movies, and collecting war firearms and memorabilia. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Florence.

Survivors include two nephews, Mark Sartain of Smithton and Matt Sartain (Joni) of Sedalia; and three great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles Sartain.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 30, 2026, at Heckart Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m.

Casket bearers will be Mark Sartain, Matt Sartain, Logan Sartain, Travis Sartain, and Chance Larsen.

Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Otterville.

Memorial contributions are suggested to IOOF Cemetery or Lake Creek Cemetery.
