Dorothy Louise Garrett, 93, of Sedalia, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
She was born February 22, 1932, in Bowem, Missouri, the daughter of James Daniel and Mary L.A. (Jennings) Vansell. On December 8, 1966, in Sedalia, she was united in marriage to Charles William Garrett, Jr., who preceded her in death on August 9, 2020.
Dorothy was devoted to her family and dearly loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family. She enjoyed fishing earlier in life and later found pleasure in gardening, crocheting, watching Christmas movies, spending time on her tablet playing Hay Day, scrolling Facebook, and watching Virgin River. She enjoyed caring for her bird, Pretty Boy, and her fish. Dorothy also enjoyed flowers and collecting knickknacks, especially salt and pepper shakers. She worked various jobs throughout her life, including at Swift and Company. Before her health failed, she was a faithful member of the Church of God.
She is survived by five children, Carl Hammond (Patsy) of Wheatland, Frances Thompson (Donald) of Sedalia, Robert Hammond (Margaret) of Sedalia, Brenda Kinyon (John) of Osceola, and Angie Turner (Stephen) of Green Ridge; 20 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Vansell; and a sister, Juanita Deckard.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sons, Charles Hammond, Mike Hammond, and Randall Garrett; two great-great-great-grandchildren, Josiah and Drew; and five siblings, Jesse Vansell, Cleo Vansell, Delmar Vansell, Ethel Monteer, and Rosetta Monteer.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Heckart Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Shawn Hammond, Christopher Wasson, Matthew Denny, Michael Bowman, Zachary Bowman, and Cody Hammond.
Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Wiemann, Brian Hyde, Allen Bozworth, John Kinyon, and Ronnie Hammond.
Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Cole Camp, Missouri.
