Donald Lee “Don” Propheter, 82, of LaMonte, Missouri, passed away Sunday, September 20, at his home.
He was born at home, on September 2, 1944 to William Junior and Alice Elizabeth (Flint) Propheter in Wathena, Kansas. On September 30, 1966, he married Patricia Lee Bledsoe at the Dearborn Baptist Church.
Donald graduated from Wathena High School in Wathena, Kansas in 1963 where he played football for the Wildcats and performed in the marching band playing the saxophone and clarinet.
He served his country honorably in the Kansas National Guard as a Personnel Clerk from 1963 to 1968. In 1968 to 1969 he was called up to Active Duty. He was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado to replenish the force, due to heavy troop deployment to Vietnam.
Growing up, Donald worked in the Family’s Feed Mill, hauled hay and helped expand the local Groh’s Apple Orchard through the process of rootstock grafting. He loved fishing, coon hunting up in the river bluffs and working on old cars and tractors. He played in the family band for socials and dances held at the Lehman one room schoolhouse. He also performed in the Apple Blossom Parade and the Youth Symphony Orchestra in Saint Joseph, Missouri.
Donald built his house and raised his family in Camden Point, Missouri where he served as an Alderman and was a Captain with the local fire department. He coached and umpired little league games. He took study courses through the National Radio Institute and Montgomery Wards for refrigeration, small engines, outboard motors, gasoline engines and electric motors. Donald worked for Wards as a small engine mechanic and appliance technician before opening his own shop. He later worked several Union jobs over the years, which helped him secure retirement in 1999 after working 24 years for Fleming Foods, totaling 31 years with the Union.
After retirement, Donald, along with his wife enjoyed living and traveling all over in their RV going to Blue Grass Festivals and other music shows, taking their boat out on the lakes, or camp hosting at an RV park.
Donald was a member of the Living Waters Assembly of God Church where he served on the Board.
Donald enjoyed repairing anything like cars, boats, houses or RV campers. He will be remembered for his generous spirit and loving the Lord Almighty.
In addition to his wife, Patricia (Patty), he is survived by his two sons Brian (Tina) Propheter and Edward Propheter; and his sister Millie; his granddaughters Kairah (Jake), Kayana (Austin); great granddaughter Brejha; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers William and John Propheter; and his grandson Sean Propheter.
