Donald Glen Morton, 89, of Raymore, formerly of Sedalia, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2023, at his home.

He was born September 29, 1934, in Sedalia, son of Porter and Beulah (Latimer) Morton.

On October 8, 1966, he was united in marriage to Deloris J. Davis Cole at East Sedalia Baptist Church, by Rev. Walter P. Arnold. Deloris preceded him in death on November 21, 2015.

On October 20, 2018, Virginia R. (Chamberlin) Davis married her sweet man, Don. They enjoyed the last five years together.

Don was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He taught high school in Stover for two years before becoming the librarian at the Sedalia Public Library, a position he held for 32 years, retiring in 1998.

Don was a faithful member of East Sedalia Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, church clerk, head usher, and Sunday school teacher.

Don was a longtime Rotarian and member of the Sedalia Rotary Club, where he was once Rotarian of the Year.

He volunteered with the Bothwell Hospital Auxiliary and was a founding member of Meals on Wheels. He was a Sedalia Freedom Award finalist. He enjoyed sports and reading.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia, of the home; a granddaughter, Rachel Vickrey Rayburn (Matthew); a sister, Jerry Heap Taylor; great-grandsons, Trevor Rayburn and Ethan Rayburn; and Virginia’s daughters, Jennifer McCullough, Anne Davis and Amy Crunk.

In addition to his parents and wife, Deloris, he was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Marsha Jean Vickrey; son-in-law, Carl William “Bill” Vickrey; a grandson, William Russell Vickrey; two sisters, Nadine Durrill and Shirley Finley; and four brothers, Dean Morton, Porter F. Morton, Wayne Morton and Melvin Morton.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 1, 2023, at Heckart Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 30, 2023, at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to East Sedalia Baptist Church.
