Dennis P. “Denny” Johnson, 75, of Knob Noster, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2025 at his home.
He was born on December 24, 1949, in DeKalb, IL, a son of Paul Francis and Mary Elizabeth (Wise) Johnson. On February 14, 1997, in Houstonia, he married Janice Renee Tullis, who survives of the home.
Dennis graduated from Shabbona High School in Shabbona, Illinois, in 1968. He later completed medic training in the United States Air Force and attended classes at Longview Community College in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. In addition, he completed pharmacy tech training and was first in his class.
He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1969-1976. Dennis was stationed in Taiwan and Japan during the Vietnam War, assisting in the Emergency Room and with helicopter rescue missions. Following active duty, he served in the Air Force Reserves out of Richard Gebauer Air Force base until 1991. He was activated during Desert Storm. Dennis was also employed at the VA Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, as a Medical Technician, X-Ray and post anesthesia unit. He also assisted with pharmacology audits.
Dennis was Baptist and joined the Methodist church later in life.
Dennis loved to buy and sell lawn tractors. He also enjoyed woodworking and raising fancy guppies. He participated in darts and bowling leagues and loved to show off by playing darts with either hand. He was very good with numbers and detail oriented.
Dennis will be remembered for his sense of humor and telling jokes and stories. He would say he did his job for the day if he got at least one person to smile or laugh. Dennis was a loving father and husband and would help out everyone he could. He loved to mow the grass. He frequently mowed the grass for neighbors and friends.
In addition to his wife, Janice, he is survived by two sons, Roger Johnson (Lisa), and Paul Johnson (Dionne); a daughter, DeLynn Johnson; two siblings, David Johnson (Carolyn), and Barb Goodin (Terry); four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at Heckart Funeral Home.
Memorial service will be 12:30 pm, Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at Heckart Funeral Home with Rev. Candace Fowler officiating.
Burial will follow at 3:00 pm at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville with full military honors.
