Dorothy Dean “Deanie” Stickney, 87, of Sedalia, passed away early Saturday morning, September 12, 2026.
She was born September 8, 1939, in Sedalia, the daughter of Howard McCallister and Earlene (Eakins). She was raised by Earlene and Orville Perkins.
Deanie was a 1957 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School. She worked in medical services for many years and most recently worked at Total Fitness Gym. She loved her friends at the gym, especially the young people she encouraged, mentored, and shared her faith with. She became well known for making “the best” protein shakes and took pride in them.
The gym was a natural fit for Deanie because she loved being around people. She had plenty of energy, was always ready to talk, and had a smile or laugh for those around her. She had a way of making people feel welcome and brought a little more fun to the world.
Deanie often said she wished she had become a Christian earlier in life. Although she had been involved in church for much of her life, it wasn’t until later in life that she came to know Jesus in a personal way. She attended LifePointe Church.
In 2004, Deanie moved back to Sedalia from Marathon, Florida. She cared for her father, Orville, in her home until his death in 2005.
Deanie enjoyed visiting with people she knew around town and was rarely content to sit still. She loved to talk, stay busy, and keep up with the people around her. She also took great pride in keeping an immaculate home.
She is survived by three children, Natalie Ellis (Mark), of Little Elm, Texas, Amy Long, of Sedalia, and Matthew Long, of Stover; one grandson, William Nash Johnson; and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Earlene Perkins; and her birth father, Howard McCallister.
A celebration of Deanie’s life will be held at 10 am Thursday, September 24, 2026, at LifePointe Church, 2921 W. Broadway, Sedalia, MO.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Arrangements are in the care of Heckart Funeral Home.
