Dean Charles Vannoy, 77, of Hughesville, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Brookdale Wornall Place in Kansas City, Missouri. He was surrounded by family, laughter, tears, and so much love.
He was born May 13, 1946, in Sedalia, the third son of the late Everett Abija and Evelyn Mae (Upton) Vannoy. On February 10, 1973, at Bethel United Methodist Church, Hughesville, he married Sharon Kay Berry, who survives of the home.
Dean was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he served as a longtime usher and wherever else needed.
He was a farmer by both birth and choice. He later also drove tractor-trailers and worked for Waterloo Industries as a driver and factory employee for over 25 years.
Dean enjoyed traveling and especially loved the mountains and ocean. He was an avid Kansas City Royals and Chiefs fan. If you couldn’t find him in the house or on a tractor, you could probably find him astride his beloved zero turn radius mower, eventually taking care of not only his but also his mother’s yard.
A devoted family man, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. With a kind and gentle temperament, he was always quick to smile, slow to anger, and patient to a fault. He had jokes at the ready, delivered quietly with a twinkle in his eye.
In addition to his wife of 51 years, Dean is survived by two daughters, Erin Teeter (Shannon), of Wichita, KS; Rena Lawrence (Bryan), of Fort Worth, TX, and; a brother, E. Harold Vannoy (Anna Lee), of Rochester Hills, MI; four grandchildren, Lauren Roland (Christian), Brienne Sosa (Jonny), Aidan Teeter and Evan Lawrence; two great-granddaughters, his “little missies,” Khalea Roland and Noémi Sosa; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Lee Vannoy.
