David A. Moore, 87, of Sedalia, passed away Friday, October 9, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born November 20, 1938, in Kansas City, the only child of Frank Archillies Moore and Callie Ann (Nelson) Moore.
On June 19, 1959, in Florence, he was united in marriage to Rhoda S. Bretall. Together, they raised three children, John, Rebecca, and Kevin, and shared 67 years of marriage.
Dave was a 1956 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School. He began his working career at Town and Country Shoes before becoming a journeyman printer for the Sedalia Democrat. In time, he and Rhoda built a business that became a lasting part of the Sedalia community. For 65 years, they owned and operated Moore’s Greenhouse and Flower Shop, where Dave found enjoyment in planting seeds and growing plants. He was a familiar face at the greenhouse, and through their business and generosity, Dave and Rhoda are an important part of the community. Their impact extends well beyond plants and flowers, touching the lives of many people over the years.
As much as Dave loved his work, his family was always central to his life. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and making memories together. Time at the lake house, fishing, boating, and being outdoors were among his favorite pastimes. Dave and Rhoda also enjoyed traveling and had visited all 50 states.
Dave was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ and attended First Christian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Rhoda, of the home; three children, John David Moore (Lori) of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Rebecca Sue Leiter (Kendle) of Sedalia, and Kevin Wayne Moore (Melinda) of New York City; six grandchildren, Noah Leiter, Callie White (Dylan), Frank Moore, Mick Moore, Riley Moore, and Maelin Moore; two great-grandchildren, Jordy White and Mylo White; and a brother-in-law and special friend, Bob Bretall. He will also be missed by many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
At the family’s request, no services will be held at this time. Friends may pay their respects and sign the guest book from 8:30 am to 5 pm Wednesday, October 14 or Thursday, October 15, at Heckart Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Show-Me Christian Youth Home, ACG Hospice Carnation Foundation, or a charity of the donor’s choice, in care of Heckart Funeral Home, 903 S. Ohio Ave., Sedalia, MO 65301.
