Daniel W. Smith

Daniel W. Smith, 80, of Sedalia, went into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Friday, February 2, 2024 at his home.

He was born August 9, 1943, in Des Moines, Iowa, a son of Charles Dan and June (Hurd) Smith. On September 12, 1981, in Marshall, he married Patricia Kirchhoff.

Dan grew up north of Sedalia on the family farm near Hughesville and graduated from Hughesville High School in 1961.

Dan worked at LCAAP, Wilson Foods and Waterloo.

He enjoyed spending time fishing with his brother, David, after they both retired. He also enjoyed drinking coffee and talking about their childhood in northern Pettis County with Jimmie and Eddie Wise, and spending time talking NASCAR with Vance Kuhns.

He is survived by his wife, Patty; son, Charles Smith and his wife, Tammy; grandson, Joseph Smith and his wife, Brittany; and great-granddaughter, Evynne Smith; all of Sedalia; sister-in-law, Lynn Smith, of Houstonia; brothers-in-law, Jerry Kirchhoff, and his wife Carolyn, of Sedalia and Phillip Kirchhoff, and his wife, Linda, of Texas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dana Smith Buso; and brother, David D. Smith.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Heckart Funeral Home with Sandy Rangitsch and Pastor Joe Smith officiating.
