Christopher William Humphreys, 50, of Sedalia, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at his home after a long illness.
He was born January 20, 1976, in Sedalia, the son of Terry Humphreys and Carla (Lashley) Humphreys.
Chris was a 1994 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School. On June 23, 2001, in Sedalia, he was united in marriage to Crystal Hines.
As a young man, Chris loved his red Honda Civic with its booming stereo system, reflecting his lifelong enjoyment of loud music and big speakers. He also enjoyed collecting Hot Wheels cars.
Chris was a proud father to his three boys. He loved them deeply and especially enjoyed spending time playing video games with them and teaching them along the way.
Chris worked at Newman’s Grocery in Warsaw, where he managed the freezer department. In 2005, his health began to decline. Over the next 25 years, he faced many challenges and underwent two transplants that gave him several more good years with those he loved. Despite the hardships he endured, Chris continued to enjoy life as much as he could and valued the time spent with family and friends.
He had a love for Harley-Davidsons and attended motorcycle mechanic school in Pittsburg, Kansas, hoping to one day work on bikes professionally. He also enjoyed watching football and racing and was a devoted fan of the Cowboys and Chiefs.
Chris will be remembered for his ornery sense of humor, quick wit, and gift for conversation. He enjoyed joking with people and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone.
Surviving are his wife of 24 years, Crystal, who faithfully stood by his side throughout his illness; two sons, Corbin and Daltin; his mother, Carla Humphreys; his father and stepmother, Terry and Catherine Humphreys; paternal grandmother, Carol Humphreys; half-sister, Jennifer Thornton; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son, Travis, in 2018; his paternal grandfather, William Humphreys; and his maternal grandparents, Carl and Betty Lashley.
A celebration of life is being planned and will be announced later.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Arrangements are in the care of Heckart Funeral Home.
