Cheryl Ann McGinnis Kalkman, 65, of Versailles, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2026, at her home.
She was born February 7, 1961, in Columbia, the daughter of the late Owen McGinnis, Jr. and Sharon (Wilson) Coonce.
Cheryl was devoted to her family and was always willing to put others before herself.
She had a special love for her cats. One, Misty, lived to be nearly 25 years old, and her cat, Sissy, who is 15, was especially dear to her. Cheryl was very protective of her cats, and they brought her great comfort and happiness.
Cheryl loved Dr. Pepper and being a big sister. She was always the one to take care of her younger siblings when their parents were out and always made sure she fixed everything they broke before their parents got back home. She was always there for her family especially to help celebrate when they had a birthday.
She enjoyed traveling and recently spent time in Panama City with her cousins, making lasting memories together.
Cheryl also took pride in her appearance. She enjoyed wearing jewelry, doing her makeup, and dressing up.
She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her Pa, Donald Coonce; three brothers, Steve McGinnis, Donald G. Coonce, and Ross McGinnis; a sister, Tammy Leidlich; seven nieces and nephews, Clint, Corey, Amanda, Katy, Holly, Hunter, and Christopher; and several cousins.
Inurnment will be at a later date at Fristoe Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Heckart Funeral Home.
