Charles N. Zimmerschied, 88, of Sedalia, formerly of Sweet Springs, passed away Monday, July 14, 2025, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center.
He was born March 23, 1937, in Sedalia, the son of the late Harry Charles and Alma Catherine (Goss) Zimmerschied. In 1958, he married Pat Klein, and they were blessed with two children, Julie and Kevin. In 1990, he married Betty Vogelsmeier Vickery, who preceded him in death in 2022.
Charles was a lifelong Catholic and was active at St. Peter Church in Marshall.
Throughout his life, Charles held a variety of jobs, beginning as a paperboy and working at a drugstore and gas station. He later worked for Menefee Construction before finding his long-term career with Panhandle Eastern Pipeline, where he served as a regulator man for 23 years until his retirement in 1992.
A true jack of all trades, Charles had a knack for fixing just about anything including mechanical work, bodywork, air conditioners, steam engines, hit-and-miss engines, and Delco plants. A loyal Ford man, he proudly owned a Model T. Tinkering in his shop or with parts pulled from the junk pile was his idea of a good time.
Charles will be remembered most for his love of people. He never met a stranger, was a natural storyteller, and always enjoyed a good conversation.
Survivors include two children, Julie Hardy and Kevin Zimmerschied (Missy), all of Green Ridge; four siblings, Paul Zimmerschied, Ralph Zimmerschied, Mary Dixon, and Ella Oliver, all of Sedalia; three grandchildren, Jacob Hardy, Noah Hardy, and Mitchell Zimmerschied; two step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Betty, and his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings, Connie Ann Sousley and Kenny Zimmerschied; and his son-in-law, Tim Hardy.
Prayers of the rosary will begin at 9:45 a.m. with visitation to follow on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Sacred Heart Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will be in Springfork Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Noah Hardy, Jacob Hardy, Mitchell Zimmerschied, Derek Thomas, Paul “Tiger” Zimmerschied, Tony Dixon, and Brad Dixon.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in care of Heckart Funeral Home.
