Charlene P. “Pat” Ferguson, 87, of Green Ridge, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
She was born August 28, 1938, in La Monte, a daughter of the late Lawrence Paul and Mary Helena (Meyer) Klein. On September 27, 1958, at St. John Church in Bahner, she married Charles Zimmerschied, and to this union two children were born, Julie and Kevin. On May 9, 1975, in Miami, Oklahoma, she was united in marriage to Gene Arthur Ferguson, who preceded her in death on June 8, 2021.
Pat worked as a contract mail carrier for more than 25 years.
She loved her family deeply and took great joy in cooking, baking, and creating a warm, welcoming home. Pat delighted in spoiling her grandsons and caring for those she loved. She had a giving heart, always ready to listen, help, and lend support to family and friends. Known for her selflessness, good humor, and ever-present smile, Pat brought joy to everyone around her.
She enjoyed travelling, especially to Branson, where she and Gene made many trips to enjoy country music shows. Pat also loved the outdoors, spending time tending her flowers, and watching and feeding the birds.
A lifelong member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish, she attended St. Patrick Chapel, and St. John in Bahner in her youth. She was also active in the Daughters of Isabella in her earlier years.
Surviving are her two children, Julie Hardy and Kevin Zimmerschied (Missy); three grandsons, Jacob Hardy, Noah Hardy, and Mitchell Zimmerschied, all of Green Ridge; a sister-in-law, Gwendolyn “Gwennie” Klein, of Bahner; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Pat is also survived by her beloved dog, Lilly.
Also surviving are five stepchildren: Paula Fischer (Dan) of Sedalia, Patrick Ferguson (Connie) of Sedalia, Bradley Ferguson (Betty) of Colorado Springs, Shauna Ferguson of Lee’s Summit, and Marty Ferguson (Kim) of Smithton; along with nine step-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband Gene, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Zimmerschied; a son-in-law, Tim Hardy; eleven siblings; and a stepdaughter, Sondra Ferguson
Prayers of the Rosary will begin at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2025, followed by visitation at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Sacred Heart Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., with Father Joe Corel officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Hardy, Noah Hardy, Mitchell Zimmerschied, Corey Klein, Rick Sprinkles, Larry Klein and Jerry Klein.
Burial will be in La Monte Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of Heckart Funeral Home.
