Carl Alan Gravatt

February 26, 1936 — May 19, 2025

Hughesville

Carl Alan Gravatt, 89, of Hughesville, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2025, at his home.

He was born on February 26, 1936, in East North Port Long Island, NY, a son of Guy and Etta (Soule) Gravatt. On January 27, 1957, at the Tempel Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO, he married Nancy Ellen Snitker who preceded him in death on April 30, 2021.

Carl spent 21 years working as a supervisor at Waterloo in Sedalia, and outside of his professional career, he was a gifted mechanic and worked for many years in Hughesville, helping neighbors and friends keep their vehicles running with skill and care.

But Carl’s impact extended far beyond the garage or the factory floor. For 23 years, he answered a higher calling as a pastor, serving faithfully at various churches throughout the local area. He was most recently a member of Hughesville Baptist Church.

Carl’s love for sports was a defining part of his life. Straight out of high school, he turned down a football scholarship and instead pursued his passion for basketball, playing semi-professionally at the young age of 18. He was also a dedicated member of the Mt. Olive baseball team and could often be found on the golf course enjoying a round with friends. No matter where he worked, if there was a company team—Carl was on it, bringing the same energy and heart he brought to every part of his life.

Carl Gravatt will be remembered for his generous spirit, unwavering faith, and the joy he found in both service and sport. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his memory will live on in the lives he touched through his work, ministry, and friendship.

Survivors include three children, Ruth Mason, Stephen Gravatt and Phillip Gravatt all of Hughesville, MO; one sister, Valerie Mitchell; two grandchildren, Robert Mason and Sarah Dement; three great-grandchildren, Phoenix Dement, Riley Dement and Willow Dement.

In addition to both of his parents and his wife Nancy, Carl was preceded in death by one son, Alan Gravatt, and one sister, Rita Peterson.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at the Hughesville High Point Cemetery.
