Betty L. Longwith

Betty Lee Longwith, 91, of Sedalia, passed away Monday, February 25, 2019 at her home.

She was born September 3, 1927 in Kahoka, MO, a daughter of Craten and Gladys (Roasa) Barr.  On  August 28, 1949 in Kirksville, MO, she married Robert Longwith who preceded her in death on July 28, 1997.

Betty graduated from Kahoka High School in 1945.  She then graduated from the Gem City Business College in Quincy, IL.  Betty worked as a secretary for the Northeast Missouri State Teachers’ College and while working there she met her husband Bob.  She lived in various places including LaBelle, Kahoka and Sweet Springs while Bob was Superintendent of Schools.  They later moved to Sedalia where Betty was the Vice President of US Bank.  She was a past member of Sorosis, enjoyed taking walks, traveling, and loved to go shopping. She always had an award-winning poodle for a pet.

Survivors include one sister, Joan Groh of Quincy, IL; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Karen and William Nicodemus of Bergenfield, NJ; nieces and nephews, Ted Nicodemus (Jennifer) of Macomb, MI, Amy Nicodemus (Chris Bishop) of Canada, Alan Groh of Wildwood, MO, Jayann Michael (Tim) of Sun City Center, FL, Laura Slaughter (Rodney) of Quincy, IL, Linda Mohr of North Palm Beach, FL, Donna Donald of Corydon, IA, Steve Mohr of Kahoka, MO, and Larry Mohr (Judy) of Kahoka, MO; several great nieces and great nephews; and special friends, Wilma and Wayne Baslee, of Sedalia.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary Mohr; a brother, Glen Barr; and a nephew, Scott Groh.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday March 2, 2019 at Heckart Funeral Home.

Casket bearers will be Steve Mohr, Ted Nicodemus, Rodney Slaughter, Russell Holsten and Steve Barnes.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society.
