Arvella was a graduate of Cole Camp High School. She worked at Windsor International Shoe Company and Interstate Studio for many years, but primarily helped her husband run the farm. For a time, she and Max owned and operated the grocery store in Ionia. She was also a top distributor for Shaklee.

She was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, served as a deacon’s wife and as church clerk. She was also involved in the church quilting group and served in any capacity needed at the church.

Arvella was a talented quilter. People from all over the U.S. sent work to her for her hand quilting. She also enjoyed crocheting.

She will be remembered as a loving and caring person, especially for her family. She loved sharing the love of Jesus with others and as a result, she was a light in the world.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles Elliott; and a sister, Lorraine Thompson.
