Alex Thomas Collins of Sedalia, Missouri, died Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia.
He was born December 7, 1950, in Richmond, California, to James Collins and Marlene Summerskill Collins Patch. On September 29, 1984, in Sedan, Kansas he married Brenda McElroy.
Alex grew up in San Pablo, California. He graduated in 1978, from Contra Costa Community College with a degree in criminal justice. Alex then started a great career in law enforcement. During the 40 plus years he had been a security guard, a school law enforcement officer, police chief, City police officer, a deputy sheriff, and an undersheriff. In 1984, Alex was appointed sheriff of Chautauqua County Kansas by then Governor John W. Carlin. Alex was a friend to anyone he met; he would help you at the drop of a hat. It was his calling to be a servant as police office or as ordained minister.
Alex is survived by his soul mate Brenda Collins of Sedalia; sister-in-Law Becky Holland of Sedan, Kansas; brothers-in-law David (Jane) Seiber of Las Vegas, Nevada; Randy (Tammy) Holland of Anderson, Indiana; Ronnie (Mary Ellen) Holland of Hobart, Indiana; Timmy Yadon of Dearing, Oklahoma; and numerous nephews and nieces and many close cousins he grew up with.
In addition to his mother and father, he is preceded in death by his stepfather, Robert Patch; his mother-in-law, Betty Yadon; his father-in-law, Lee Seiber; brothers-in-law, Billy and Jimmy Holland; grandparents, Alex and Maggie Collins and Marshall and Lavesta Summerskill.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Heckart Funeral Home and a celebration of life is being planned for a later date.
